Going back to work

If you want to keep breastfeeding, don’t let the fact that you’re going back to work put you off. The World Health Organization recommends exclusive breastfeeding for around six months, and there are benefits to continuing breastfeeding for up to two years after your baby starts taking solid food.

There is legislation in place which means that your employer must make it possible for you to continue breastfeeding when you go back to work. You must let them know in writing that you intend to continue breastfeeding.
